BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr swim team hosted their first meet of the season in their home pool earlier Friday evening to welcome Centennial Conference opponent Ursinus to campus. The entire meet came down to the final event of the evening as the teams were tied 93-93 to enter the 800 freestyle relay. Bryn Mawr gave it their all, but a first and second place finish for Ursinus sealed their fate as the Bears won the day 108-95.

First-year Mina Rothberg earned two place finishes and two season bests for the Owls.

Ursinus broke their own record in the Bryn Mawr College pool records, originally broken in 2015, in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 8:12.53 (Mimi Norris, Katie Barlow, Emily Carkhuff, Morgan Valeriano).

Highlights:
  • Bryn Mawr won the opening event of the evening, the 200-medley relay raced by Maya Madden, Maddie Sullivan, Jane Farrell, and Dalia Ibrahim. The squad finished with a time of 1:56.78, earning them a spot in the Bryn Mawr all-time top-10.
  • Rothberg finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:01.67) followed by teammate Farrell (1:01.69). The first-year's impressive time was a season best for the young Owl, as she broke into the Bryn Mawr all-time top-10. While Farell did not earn a new personal record, she did surpass her own spot in the Bryn Mawr all-time top-10.
  • Bryn Mawr also finished first in the 100 breaststroke as Rothberg (1:11.94) earned her second first place finish of the evening. Rothberg was followed by teammate Sullivan (1:11.94) while both Owls recorded season bests in the event. Rothberg broke into the Bryn Mawr all-time top-10 for the second time of the evening.
  • First-year Ellie Berry had an impressive evening with two second place finishes in the 50 freestyle (26:28) and 100 freestyle (56:98).
  • Vivian Sandifer (11:14.76) and Samantha Ings (5:41.04) also earned second place finishes for the Owls in the 1000 freestyle and 500 freestyle respectively.
  • The entire meet came down to the final event of the 800 freestyle relay as Bryn Mawr and Ursinus were tied 93-93. Both teams raced two squads, but a first and second place finish for the Bears were enough to push Ursinus over the edge for a 108-95 win.
Bryn Mawr will return to action on Saturday for a tri-meet against Elizabethtown and Cabrini as the Owls travel to Elizabethtown, Pa.
