HAVERFORD, Pa. – Junior captain
Jessica Smith led the Owls with 15 points as the Bryn Mawr basketball team put forth a valiant effort, battling relentlessly for 40 minutes, ultimately falling to Haverford, 57-37, Tuesday evening at the Calvin Gooding Arena.
In addition to Smith, the Owls also received solid contributions from first-year
Michelle Jiang and junior
Kris Pasia. Jiang tallied six points and two rebounds while Pasia chipped in two three-pointers and three steals.
Highlights:
- The game opened with the Fords taking a 6-0 lead, but a three-pointer off a fast break from Jiang got the Owls on the scoreboard. Both teams struggled to find the hoop for the rest of the quarter with only twelve points being made in the opening 10 minutes.
- Bryn Mawr tied the board off a three-pointer from Pasia in the opening minutes of the second quarter, but it would not last long as Haverford made their own three-pointer seconds later. Pasia made a second three-pointer with 1:05 left in the first half, but two made layups and free throws kept Haverford in the lead at 17-14 going into halftime.
- Smith and first-year Hannah Mack led the Owls at the start of the half. Smith recorded three made free throws and a layup in the paint, while Mack tallied a three-pointer and jumper. Yet, it was not enough to quell the Fords as the home team finally found their groove and extended their lead to 12.
- Bryn Mawr recorded their strongest scoring of the night to add 12 points to the scoreboard in the final stanza, but eight made field goals and two three-pointers for Haverford sealed the fate of the game as the Owls were unable to comeback from the home team's 20-point lead.
The Bryn Mawr basketball team will rest for the holiday and return on Tuesday for their second Centennial Conference match-up of the season as they welcome Muhlenberg to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
