Bard Edges out Bryn Mawr 60-54 in the Owls’ Second Game of the Season

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bryn Mawr basketball team traveled to New York this weekend to compete against Bard College for the Owls' second game of the season.

Junior Jessica Smith netted a season high of 18 points and helped hold the Owls' lead until the last three minutes of the third quarter, but the young Owls ultimately fell short as they were edged, 60-54 at Bard Saturday afternoon at Stevenson Athletic Center.

Bryn Mawr moves to 1-1 for the season while Bard improves to a 1-0 record.

Highlights:
  • The Owls held an 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Smith got Bryn Mawr on the scoreboard with a nice layup in the paint at the 2:40 mark and first-year Michelle Jiang cashed in two three-pointers followed by a layup in the paint in the last minute of the quarter.
  • Both teams scored 15 points in the second quarter to allow Bryn Mawr to maintain a four point lead going into halftime. The second quarter featured six points by Smith and a three-pointer by first-year Hannah Mack.
  • A three-pointer by Mae Redmond earned Bard a one-point lead in the third quarter. Bryn Mawr regained their lead after jumpers by Smith and fellow junior Hannah Binder, but the lead would not last long as Bard took a 46-41 edge as the game entered the final stanza.
  • Bard's comeback in the third quarter sealed the fate of the game as Bard outscored Bryn Mawr 14-13 in the final 10 minutes for a six-point lead at the final buzzer.
Bryn Mawr will return on Tuesday for another away game at Penn State Berks before returning home for their first home competition of the season on Saturday to welcome Bryn Athyn to campus.
