Owls Defeat Dickinson 2-0 in First Round of Centennial Conference Tournament

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr field hockey team traveled to Carlisle, Pa. to compete against fourth-seed Dickinson College in the first round of the Centennial Conference Tournament. The Owls took a 2-0 lead in the second quarter with goals by Eva Yacura and Charlotte Hauptman to record their fourth straight shutout as they move onto the semifinal round.

The Owls, lead by Head Coach Victor Brady and Assistant Coaches Lauren Fuchs, Christie Jones, and Ashley Ross, continue to make history as Bryn Mawr improves to the semifinals of the Centennial Conference Tournament for the second straight year.

Highlights:
  • The Owls found themselves with an early advantage when a Dickinson green card was called two minutes into the competition. During the penalty, Bryn Mawr earned a corner and recorded a shot taken by junior Novy Goetgeluk which went wide.
  • Both teams took two shots during the remainder of the first quarter, but both of Dickinson's shots were blocked while sophomore Maggie Barilla and junior Reba Ervin missed the mark.
  • The Red Devils tallied the first shot of the second quarter at 20:09 after a penalty corner, but it was blocked.
  • A corner taken by Owls Annick van Blerkom at 26:20 would be just what Bryn Mawr needed. Midfielder Eva Yacura found the insert at the top of the circle and ripped it into the back of the cage for the Owls first goal.
  • Bryn Mawr's next big moment came at 28:46 with another van Blerkom corner. Juniors Lilith Weinlick and Charlotte Hauptman tallied shots, but both were saved. However, Hauptman rebounded her own saved shot and earned the Owls' second goal for a 2-0 scoreboard.
  • The Owls proved to be the more offensive team of the day as they outshot the Red Devils 4-1 in the third quarter. Senior Sarah Chapman began the Owls' hunt for a third goal with a wide shot, quickly followed by a saved Hazel Miller shot and blocked Yacura shot. Senior Izzy Robinson-Cloete recorded the Owls' last attempt of the frame, but Dickinson's goalkeeper Taylor Schlein tallied her second save of the quarter to keep the score 2-0.
  • Desperate to quell Bryn Mawr's lead, Dickinson put it all out there in the final frame as they moved into the circle at 46:30 with a shot by Malena Malka Goldman. However, Bryn Mawr maintained their 2-0 lead and kept the Red Devils to a lone blocked shot the entire fourth quarter.
Bryn Mawr field hockey will travel to Johns Hopkins on Thursday for a 6:00 PM match to compete for a spot in the finals of the Centennial Conference Championships.
