BALTIMORE, Md. – The Bryn Mawr field hockey season and the team's five game win streak came to an end earlier Thursday evening after a heartbreaking 2-0 loss to first seeded Johns Hopkins in the Centennial Conference Semifinals.
Novy Goetgeluk shot the Owls' lone shots on goal while two-time Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week
Charlene Basque made five saves against the Blue Jays.
Johns Hopkins Liz Falterer recorded both of Johns Hopkins's goals off penalty corners.
Highlights:
- The Owls struggled to find their groove in the first quarter as the Blue Jays kept the control on Bryn Mawr's half to record three corners and two shots. However, neither shot ticked the scoreboard.
- Owls' midfielder Goetgeluk single handedly stopped a Blue Jay pass at the center line and fought her way into the circle for the Owls' first shot of the game at 6:24.
- Johns Hopkins maintained their offensive pressure as they earned four corners throughout the second quarter. On the third corner, Jenna Halpin shot from the right side of the circle, but Basque got a foot on it and kicked it away. Falterer pounced on the save for a low shot past Basque for the first goal of the game and a 1-0 Johns Hopkins lead.
- Johns Hopkins earned their second goal off a corner at 38:40, again earned by Falterer. After taking the insert at the top of the circle, Falterer received a pass from teammate Mikayla Schoff and ticked the scoreboard for the second time of the evening.
- The Owls finally got a break at 42:58 with a penalty corner taken by Annick van Blerkom. Junior Eva Yacura took the insert and Goetegluk came from behind for the shot, but Bryn Mawr could not manage a goal as John Hopkins's goalkeeper made the save.
- Basque tallied three saves in the final quarter, but Bryn Mawr's offense was unable to come back from the home team's 2-0 lead.
