Field Hockey Celebrates Senior Day With a 3-0 Win

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Senior Sarah Chapman scored her first goal of the season to round out the Owls' scoring earlier Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 win over McDaniel on Applebee Field. Bryn Mawr began the day celebrating their four seniors: Sarah Chapman, Thekla Jubinville, Hallie Kern, and Izzy Robinson-Cloete.

Bryn Mawr outshot the Green Terrors 20-2 and improved to a 11-6 overall record, 6-4 in Centennial Conference play.

Sophomores Annick van Blerkom and Jasmine Peterson scored the Owls' first two goals respectively.

Highlights:
  • The Owls led the charge right out of the gate with three shots within the first minutes.
  • At 6:53, defender Annick van Blerkom opened the Owls' scoring with an assist by junior midfielder Hazel Miller. Van Blerkom inserted the penalty corner and midfielder Maggie Barilla attempted a shot at the top of the circle, but it was saved by McDaniel's goalkeeper. Miller deflected the save and van Blerkom tipped a shot just inside of the cage to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
  • The Owls maintained their offensive prowess in the second quarter to keep play near the Green Terrors goal for a majority of the 15 minutes.
  • Forward Jasmine Peterson extended Bryn Mawr's lead to two off an assist by fellow sophomore Lauren Barlow at 20:42. Barlow found the ball at the bottom of the circle and made a quick pass to Peterson who stood mere inches from the cage for a clean goal.
  • Less than five minutes later, Chapman rounded out the Owls' scoring with an assist by junior midfielder Lillith Weinlick. Weinlick passed to Chapman from outside of the circle and the senior found a clear opening to extend the Owls' lead to three.
  • In the third quarter, the Owls recorded five shots on goal, but all were saved, and the score remained 3-0 as they entered the final quarter.
  • The Owls looked to tick the scoreboard in the fourth quarter as they tallied six penalty corners, four of which were within two minutes, but none resulted in a goal.
  • McDaniel could not manage to quell the Owls' lead and Bryn Mawr won the day 3-0.
The Bryn Mawr field hockey team will travel to Carlisle, Pa. on Tuesday to compete against Dickinson in the first round of the Centennial Conference Championships as the fifth seed.
