BALTIMORE, Md. – Owl midfielder
Maggie Barilla opened the day's scoring, but No. 3 Johns Hopkins took the day at 58:05 to win 2-1 in Centennial Conference action earlier Saturday afternoon.
Highlights:
- Charlene Basque made four saves, three of which were in the opening quarter.
- Barilla got the Owls on the scoreboard at 17:58 as she shot at the top of the circle off a penalty corner taken by Annick van Blerkom through the Johns Hopkins defenders.
- Minutes later, the Blue Jays returned the favor with their own goal off a penalty corner to even the score at 1-1.
- The Owls saw a second scoring opportunity off another van Blerkom penalty corner in the last minute of the second quarter, but the shot taken by junior Eva Yacura was saved by the Blue Jay's goalkeeper Alexis Loder.
- Bryn Mawr's offense came out swinging after returning from halftime to earn four penalty corners, three of which resulted in shots taken by Yacura, Hazel Miller, and Sarah Chapman. However, the first was sent wide, while Miller and Chapman's attempts were saved.
- The Blue Jays controlled the second half of the quarter, but the Owls' defense stood strong, and the score remained 1-1 going into the final stanza.
- Bryn Mawr maintained a strong defense throughout the majority of the fourth quarter, quelling both of Johns Hopkins's scoring opportunities.
- However, at 58:05 off a penalty corner Blue Jay Liz Falterer shot from the top of the circle and found the back of the cage to give Johns Hopkins the one goal lead they needed.
- Owls' Head Coach Victor Brady pulled his goalkeeper immediately following the home team's goal, but it was not enough as Bryn Mawr did not see another shot opportunity in the last minute of the game.
