Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In their second road game back in the 2022-23 season, the Bryn Mawr Owls gave Ursinus all it could handle before falling, 74-39, Wednesday night at Helfferich Hall. Sena Kaper-Dale helped bring the Owls to 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bears held off the charge.
Ursinus Chinwe Irondi led both teams with 24 points, followed by 15 for teammate Natalie Mehl.
Hannah Binder finished with 12 points followed by Sydney Collins with 11 points, her fourth game collecting double figures for Bryn Mawr. The duo also had a strong day on free throws. Binder made all four of her shots and Collins only missed one.
The first quarter was anyone's game as the Owls and Bears traded leads back and forth. Yet, it was Bryn Mawr who took the lead. Down 16-15 and with seconds left in the quarter, Kaper-Dale drove down the court, drained a three-point jump shot, and gave the Owls the lead at the end of the quarter. This marked Bryn Mawr's first end of quarter lead in conference play.
Unfortunately, Bryn Mawr's lead did not last long. Early in the second quarter, Owls Ella Kotsen made a layup to extend the team's lead to four points, but the Bears quickly charged ahead with a nine-point streak to regain the lead.
The Owls continued to battle, but the Bears held their opponent, only allowing Bryn Mawr to add fourteen points in the second half.
Binder made the last shots of the game, two free throws and a jump shot, in the remaining minute and a half, but it was not enough to overtake the Bears. Ursinus won the teams' first match-up 74-39. The teams will meet again in three weeks, this time competing on the Owls' home court.
Bryn Mawr will take a hiatus from competition for the remainder of the week before welcoming Swarthmore to campus on Tuesday evening.
