Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – With two games remaining in the regular season and looking to end on a high note, the Bryn Mawr basketball team headed down the main line one last time to face the Swarthmore Garnet Thursday night. The Owls hoped to even the series this time around, but a strong Swarthmore team gained the early lead and never let it go as Bryn Mawr fell 90-28. Sydney Collins led the Owls with 11 points and 9 rebounds while Kim Kockenmeister led the Garnet with 20.
After nearly two minutes of scoreless play to kick off the first quarter, Swarthmore would be the first to put up points as Alyssa Hayashi sunk a three-point shot. The basket spurred a 13-point run by the Garnet before the Owls found their first points of the game off a jumper by Hannah Binder, who later added a free throw on the board for Bryn Mawr. With momentum on their side, Swarthmore continued racking up points, holding the Owls to just one more free throw from Ella Kotsen as the score sat at 24-4 after the first quarter.
The Garnet continued their dominance to start off the second quarter as they'd go on another run, this time of nine points, before it was interrupted by a jumper from Bryn Mawr's Sydney Collins. Just a few possessions later, Collins added another two-point shot to the Owls' total followed by a layup from Binder to put the score at 42-10. As time began to run out, Sonja Meijer stepped up for Bryn Mawr, sinking back-to-back layups to up the score to 53-14 at the half.
Coming out of halftime, the Garnet opened with a seven-point run before a foul by Jordana Sampson brought Collins to the line, where she'd nail both free throws and move the score to 60-16. Unfortunately, the only other points the Owls saw in the third quarter came from Alanna Mora-Mickens who hit a jumper with just under five minutes remaining. The duo of Emily Smith and Aqua Withers Carello closed the quarter out with a combined six points to put the score at 68-18 with one quarter to go.
The Owls saw their highest scoring quarter of the night in the final ten minutes of play as Collins picked up another five points to round out her game total at 11. Aliya Stubenbord also nailed a three-point shot, her first of the game, while Kotsen landed a layup to bring the Owls to 28 points. Unfortunately, the hot start by Swarthmore proved to be dangerous and couldn't be stop as Bryn Mawr ultimately fell 90-28.
