Box Score CARLISLE, Pa. – Behind a dominant third quarter and three penalty corner goals, the Bryn Mawr Field Hockey Team cruised past Dickinson 4-1 on a rainy Saturday at Biddle Field. The Owls are winners of six straight and improve to 9-1 overall, 3-0 in Centennial Conference play.
Tied 1-1 at the half, the Owls needed just 3:36 after the intermission to find the eventual game-winner.
Starting deep in their own half, Bryn Mawr built the play through the midfield with the ball finding Thekla Jubinville along the right sideline. An early through pass found Sarah Chapman cutting in along the right baseline, where she earned a penalty corner.
Eva Yacura received the insertion from Annick van Blerkom at the top of the circle and her shot was redirected by Kate Ervin at the right post behind Dickinson goalkeeper Saige Stevens for the a 2-1 advantage.
The goal was just reward for Bryn Mawr, which dominated long stretches of the opening stanza but missed the final touch in front of goal.
Hazel Miller nearly opened the scoring minutes into the game, redirecting a Yacura cross just wide of the left post. Miller and Lauren Barlow had golden opportunities in front of goal later in the first half as well, only to be denied by Stevens.
The Owls lone tally in the first half came at the 10-minute mark on a Yacura rocket to cap their first penalty corner of the game.
Dickinson answered with a penalty corner goal of their own nine minutes later as Abby Marthins tucked a ball in from the baseline for her first goal of the season.
But the second half belonged to the visitors, as Bryn Mawr outshot Dickinson 11-1 after the break (and 18-4 for the game.
Less than seven minutes after Ervin put the Owls in front, Maggie Barilla capitalized on a penalty corner as well with a precise sweep inside the attacking left post for her first collegiate goal.
Miller capped the scoring three minutes later, finishing a beautiful give-and-go with Izzy Robinson-Cloete for her team-leading 10th goal of the season. The sophomore has now scored in five straight games dating back to September 17 at Christopher Newport and is tied for the most goals and points in the Centennial Conference.
Maggie Titus made two saves in goal to earn the win, including one late in the fourth quarter as the Owls fended off a late push from the Red Devils (1-8, 0-3 CC).
Bryn Mawr returns home on Thursday at 4 PM to take on an explosive Washington College team that leads the Centennial Conference in scoring.
