Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – With January coming to a close, the Bryn Mawr basketball team looked to end the month on a high note as they traveled on the road to Gettysburg to face the Bullets in a Centennial Conference showdown. Last week, the Owls put up a tough fight against Gettysburg at home and while they kept the spirit coming tonight, the Bullets' strong offensive start couldn't be stopped as Bryn Mawr fell 100-27. Hannah Binder led the Owls with eight points, followed by Sonja Meijer with seven, while Emily Violante landed 13 points to lead the Bullets.
Gettysburg got off to a dominating start, putting up 26 straight points with only one shot missed and 3:35 left in the first quarter. Fortunately, Binder was there to break the run with a jumper to put the Owls on the board. While Jessica Smith followed with a free throw, Bryn Mawr saw only two more points from Meijer by the end of the first as Gettysburg kept the strong showing coming, putting the score at 32-5 after the first ten minutes.
Bianca Carrizal put the Owls on the board early in the second quarter as she nailed back-to-back free throws to set the scoreboard at 34-7 however, the Bullets responded with a 13-point run quickly after to move the score to 47-7. Binder sunk a jumper once again to end the Bullets' momentum and Meijer followed with a layup two minutes later, but despite another jumper landed by Binder, Gettysburg refused to relinquish control of the game as the score sat at 54-13 going into the half.
Unfortunately, the Owls would struggle to put a stop to Gettysburg's dominant pace in the second half. The third quarter saw four different players bring the heat to the Bullets as Meijer started off with a layup and Smith with a three-point shot to put the score at 63-18. Later, the duo of Binder and Sydney Collins stepped up to the plate with two and four points respectively, but the second jumper from Collins was the last points the Owls saw for the quarter as the score sat at 76-24 with 10 minutes left.
Bryn Mawr would only add three points to their score in the fourth quarter off a free throw from Meijer and jumper from Aliya Stubenbord whereas the Bullets rallied for a combined 24 points to put the final score at 100-27.
With a long week ahead, Bryn Mawr looks to bounce back as they face a quick turnaround with their first home game of February. The Owls will face the neighboring Haverford Wednesday, February 2 in the Class of 1958 Gym with tip-off scheduled for 7:00PM.
