Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Freshman Maddy Beckmann scored four goals, including a natural hat trick and the game winning goal, as Bryn Mawr field hockey defeated visiting Cedar Crest College 4-3 in overtime.
The four goals in a game is a modern day record. The previous record was two goals held by five different players with the most recent one coming in 2010 when Sarah Capasso netted a pair against Rosemont College.
In addition, the last time Bryn Mawr scored four or more goals in a game was on Sept. 9, 2006, when the Owls defeated Mary Baldwin 4-0.
Cedar Crest jumped out to a two-goal lead when they tallied back-to-back marks over a three-minute span in the final five minutes of the opening half. The two goals came from the sticks of Erin Studer and Heather Rice.
In the second, Beckmann got the Owls on the board with an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute. Cedar Crest Answered with Studer's second goal of the contest less than two minutes later.
In the 63rd minute, Beckmann raced the length of the field to tally her second goal of the contest as she sent her shot past Cedar Crest's back-up netminder Falynn Strohl.
Twenty-six second later, Beckmann took a pass from classmate Holly Constants to tie the game at three-all. Regulation came to an end with the scored knotted at 3-3 forcing overtime.
In the 73rd minute of the game, Beckmann carried the ball into the circle and flung her shot past a diving Lindsay Harrison. Once the ball went into the net, the Bryn Mawr bench cleared as everyone ran to celebrate the overtime victory.
For Bryn Mawr, six different players recorded shot with Beckmann taking a game-high 14. Goalies Elizabeth Toft and Faith Westdorp combined for six saves.
The Owls outshot the Falcons, 26-13, the sixth most all-time taken by Bryn Mawr in the modern era. They also held a 26-8 advantage on penalty corners.
Bryn Mawr ends the season 2-15 overall and 0-10 in the Centennial Conference. The two wins on the season is the most wins since the 2007 season when the Owls tallied a tow wins against hood and Smith Colleges.
