Bryn Mawr College Athletic Alliance Constitution
We are The Bryn Mawr Athletic Collective (Alliance)*, a club for scholar athletes of Color in the Bryn Mawr Community.
We aim to celebrate the legacies of BIPOC scholar athletes, past, present, and future, who have, and will continue, to disrupt the elitist predominantly white environment of the Bryn Mawr College’s athletic community and the white feminist atmosphere of the Bryn Mawr community at large.
We aim to uplift the voices of BIPOC scholar athletes who, as a result of white supremacy, are not only marginalized because of their gender identity, but because of their racial/ethnic identity and other intersecting identities that do not align with the heteronormative, nationalistic, xenophobic, classist, and patriarchal society of United States’ culture.
We aim to account for the racial/ethnic disparities we see in the Bryn Mawr athletic community today, and we aim to account for the divide between the athletic community and the Bryn Mawr community at large.
We aim to collaborate with other women/students on campus who have been burdened with uplifting the voices of the often invisibilized members of the Bryn Mawr community, such as, Sisterhood*, BACaSO, Mujeres*, Asian Students’ Association, South Asian Society, Korean Student Association, ZAMI+, Mawrters for Immigrant Justice, and all other clubs who continue to provide the necessary resources to help members of the BIPOC community navigate an exclusive predominantly white affluent environment.
We aim to provide the necessary resources, and spaces, for all BIPOC scholar athletes to successfully play the sport they enjoy while simultaneously implementing themselves as the successful scholars they are destined to be.
We aim to diverge from white feminism, and instead, celebrate a more collective movement that acknowledges all individuals who are not the cis-man.
We aim to continue to dismantle the systems that have resulted in the demographics of the predominantly white sports in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
We aim to implement these goals ‘by any means necessary’.
We hope you join us in progressing this movement.
