ORLANDO, FL – Bryn Mawr tennis opened their spring break slate Monday at the USTA National Campus, splitting a pair of matches. The Owls fell 6-1 to the University of Minnesota Crookston in the morning before bouncing back with a 7-0 sweep of the University of Minnesota Morris in the afternoon.
University of Minnesota Crookston Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr began the day at sunrise for doubles against Crookston. The No. 3 pairing of Sophie Fenster and Gioanna Zhao secured the Owls' first win with a 6-2 result.
- Despite the early point, Crookston captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
- Zhao added Bryn Mawr's lone singles victory of the match, winning convincingly at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
- Claire Emanuel battled in a tightly contested three-set match at No. 3 singles. Emanuel claimed the opening set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), before her Crookston opponent responded with a 6-3 second set and narrowly won the third-set tiebreak, 11-9.
University of Minnesota Morris Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr returned to the courts in the afternoon against another Cougars squad and produced a dominant 7-0 sweep.
- The Owls opened strong in doubles, winning all three matches to secure the point while not dropping a single game.
- Bryn Mawr continued the momentum in singles, with Fenster (No. 1), Kelli Eng (No. 2), and Zhao (No. 5) each recording 6-0, 6-0 victories.
- Emanuel added a win in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
- First-year Giselle Gandakusuma earned her first collegiate singles victory, allowing just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win.
