Owls Moves to 4-2 With a 65-56 Win Over Cairn

LANGHORNE, PA — Bryn Mawr basketball defeated Cairn University, 65-56, at the Mason Activity Center, powered by a strong second half where the Owls outscored the Highlanders 48-33. The Owls capitalized on turnovers, converting 24 points off the opponent's 23 turnovers. The Owls doubled their scoring in the second half.

How It Happened:
  • Bryn Mawr started the first quarter by establishing an early lead with a strong 8–2 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from Maddy Patel, who achieved a career-high total of 20 points, and another from Jenny Briggs, who also set a personal best with 19 points, both assisted by Hannah Govert. Govert, notable for scoring at least seven total points in two consecutive games, played a pivotal role. 
  • Despite a strong start, the Owls faced resistance as Cairn responded by dominating the paint, scoring 11 points and gradually taking control of the scoreboard. Bryn Mawr managed to keep the game close with Michelle Jiang sinking a free throw in the final seconds. The first quarter concluded with the Owls trailing 12-9.
  • The second quarter began with Bryn Mawr's Jenna Vollor making a key impact, scoring a jumper in the paint to tie the game at 12. Vollor, who achieved a career high of 12 total points during the game, was instrumental in maintaining the Owls' competitive edge. Defensive efforts were highlighted by two steals within the first few minutes, with Briggs and Vollor each contributing. The Owls maintained a tight contest, with a notable three-pointer from Patel leveling the score at 17. However, Cairn pulled ahead, taking a 23-17 lead by the quarter's end.
  • Bryn Mawr started the third quarter strong, overcoming an early deficit with a series of key plays. Briggs ignited a comeback with a three-pointer at 7:06, followed by another at 3:34 to tie the game, 38-38. The Owls capitalized on the Highlanders' turnovers, with Allison Stoudt's defensive efforts leading to crucial steals. 
  • In the latter half of the quarter, Govert sank a critical three-pointer at 2:54 to take the lead. She then made two free throws in the final seconds of the third quaurter to extend the Owls' lead to 43-40. 
  • Bryn Mawr initiated the fourth quarter by quickly regaining momentum through a series of successful baskets. Patel and Jiang contributed crucial scores, with Patel hitting a three-pointer at 6:42 to extend the lead to 50-46. 
  • As the quarter progressed, Briggs delivered with back-to-back three-pointers, further solidifying Bryn Mawr's advantage. The team's defensive efforts were highlighted by a block from Vollor and several key rebounds that stifled the Highlanders' attempts to close the gap. Bryn Mawr maintained control in the final minutes, closing out with a 65-56 lead.
