BRYN MAWR, PA – The Bryn Mawr basketball team hosted Ursinus on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action at the Class of 1958 Gymnasium. The Owls battled hard throughout the contest, but the visiting Bears had a strong offensive performance to pull away for a 72-44 victory. Despite the result, senior captain Jessica Smith made Bryn Mawr basketball history as she scored her 1000th point for the Owls. She became the eighth player in program history to reach the 1000th point mark.

Bryn Mawr got off to a slow start in the opening quarter, scoring just five points. Smith gave the Owls a lift with a strong move inside and also added a free throw early in the frame. However, Ursinus capitalized on Bryn Mawr turnovers, building a 15-5 lead by the end of the first.

In the second quarter, the Owls came alive. Smith continued to lead the charge, racking up key baskets and grabbing rebounds to help Bryn Mawr close the gap. She led the way for Bryn Mawr, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals. Hannah Mack also contributed with strong defensive efforts, and the Owls found an offensive flow. Hannah Govert knocked down a three late in the quarter to give the home team some moment entering the half. Bryn Mawr had trimmed the Ursinus lead to 30-22 by the time the first half buzzer sounded

Ursinus came out firing in the third quarter. The Bears' Chinwe Irondi proved difficult to stop, leading all scorers with 25 points and 15 rebounds on the day. The visitors pulled away in the frame, outscoring the Owls, 24-11. Bryn Mawr got a boost from a three-pointer by Kris Pasia, but the gap grew to 54-33 by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Owls continued to battle in the final period, with Daphne Bracker Sturm and Cameron Richter making an impact on offense. Despite their efforts, Ursinus' defense locked down, and the Bears secured the 72-44 victory.
The Owls look ahead to Tuesday, January 28th as they travel to Muhlenberg College to face the Mules for a second time this season. In their last match-up the Owls forced overtime.
