BRYN MAWR, PA- #15 Bryn Mawr field hockey made history Wednesday afternoon with a win on Shillingford Field against the visiting Knights of #17 SUNY Geneseo in the first round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament. The Owls earned their first NCAA appearance and win in program history during Wednesday's game, 1-0.
Bryn Mawr and SUNY Geneseo battled back and forth throughout the game with both teams trading possessions. The Knights maintained an offensive attack during the first quarter, however Bryn Mawr responded with three penalty corners and six shots at the end of the first half.
After the half-time break, the Owls continued to find ways to put pressure on SUNY Geneseo's defense. Bryn Mawr flew away with a tight 1-0 win against the Knights to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

With both teams scoreless at the half, Bryn Mawr looked to put the ball in the cage. At 42:12, the Owls drew their first of two consecutive penalty corners which placed the pressure on the Knights' defense. With 16 seconds left in the third quarter, Annick van Blerkom inserted a third corner for Bryn Mawr. Senior captain Yacura fired a bullet from the top of the circle to score the Owls' game winning goal. The goal marked Yacura's eighth goal of the season and her second game-winning goal of the year.
Bryn Mawr field hockey has earned a trip to Middlebury, VT to face the Panthers of Middlebury College in the second round of the NCAA tournament. The Owls will face the reigning national champions at 11:00 AM EST on Saturday November 16th .
