BRONXVILLE, NY - The Bryn Mawr basketball team came out on top in a thrilling 68-61 victory over Marywood University in the Gryphon Invitational, held at Sarah Lawrence College. The Owls displayed resilience and poise throughout the game, overcoming a tough Marywood squad to secure the victory and win the Gryphon Invitational.
Highlights:
- Bryn Mawr came out strong in the opening period, quickly establishing an early lead. The Owls' offense was clicking early, with senior guard Kris Pasia leading the charge with eight points. Bryn Mawr's defense was sharp as well, forcing Marywood into several difficult shots and limiting their fast-break opportunities. The Owls ended the first quarter up by two (22-20), setting the stage for a competitive game.
- Marywood responded in the second quarter, tightening up their defense and finding success on offense. The Pacers managed to trim Bryn Mawr's lead and tie the scoreboard 28-28 to keep the game close. However, the Owls continued to move the ball well, with seniors Jessica Smith and Hannah Binder adding key baskets to maintain a slim advantage. At the halftime buzzer, Bryn Mawr held onto a narrow lead, 35-32.
- Bryn Mawr came out of the locker room with renewed intensity in the third quarter. The Owls increased their defensive pressure and capitalized on several fast-break opportunities. A big three-pointer from Binder and some clutch free throw shooting from Smith gave Bryn Mawr a bit of breathing room. The Owls stretched their lead to six points, as they effectively executed both offensively and defensively. Despite some strong efforts by Marywood, Bryn Mawr held their ground.
- Marywood came out with urgency in the fourth quarter, looking to close the gap. The Pacers hit a couple of key shots to make it a one-possession game, but Bryn Mawr kept their composure. Smith came up with key defensive stops, and her free throw shooting in the final minutes was particularly important, as the senior guard converted from the line six times to seal the win and deny Marywood a late comeback.
Bryn Mawr moves to 2-0 on the season and will return home on Monday, November 11
