BRYN MAWR, PA- Bryn Mawr field hockey hosted the Shorewomen of Washington College on Shillingford Field Wednesday afternoon. The Owls outshot the Shorewomen 16-3 during the Centennial Conference match-up to secure a win, 5-1.

Highlights:

  • The Owls started the game on the back foot and Washington College took an early lead with a goal at 3:32. Bryn Mawr responded with two shots on goal but did not connect until period number two.

  • During the second period, Bryn Mawr put on an offensive clinic. The team scored five goals from five different Owls.

  • At 17:10, junior defender Annick van Blerkom passed the ball to senior captain Eva Yacura. Yacura dribbled through two defenders and chipped the ball from the top circle for the first Owls goal of the game and her fifth of the season. Two minutes later, van Blerkom sent a long ball into the circle from outside of the 25-yard line. Senior Lauren Barlow secured the pass and scored a hat trick goal to put Bryn Mawr ahead, 2-1.

  • The Owls scored goal number three of the game at 23:06, when junior defender Maggie Barilla sent the ball to senior captain Reba Ervin for her fourth goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Bryn Mawr found the back of the net again. Barilla shot the ball near the cage and senior Charlotte Hauptman chipped it in for the Owls fourth goal against Washington College.

  • In the final two minutes of the half, Bryn Mawr drew their second penalty corner of the quarter. Ervin received the corner pass from Zoe Woon and passed it to Barilla with the handle of her stick. Barilla shot a bullet straight to the back of the cage for Bryn Mawr goal number five.
