SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr field hockey program outshot the Garnet of Swarthmore 7-5 on Wednesday evening, but a fourth quarter goal for Swarthmore gave the Garnet a 1-0 win over the No. 16 Bryn Mawr.
Highlights:
- The Owls racked up nine penalty corners against Swarthmore.
- In the first quarter, Eva Yacura '25 took two shots on goal, but the Garnet goalkeeper stopped both attempts. Yacura would go on to lead the Owls in shots (5).
- Bryn Mawr's offense put pressure on the Garnet in the third quarter, earning seven penalty corners, but each attempt was met with a clear, foul, or save.
- In addition to a strong offense, Bryn Mawr's defense refused a single Swarthmore shot in the third quarter.
- The entire game came down to the last three minutes with back-to-back penalty corners for the Garnet. On the second, Swarthmore Anna Stancofski received the ball and found teammate Sophia Hitchingham at the left post. The Garnet shot between the legs of goalkeeper Charlene Basque '26 to take a 1-0 lead with 2:47 left on the clock.
- Immediately following the goal, Coach Victor Brady pulled Basque to substitute in an extra attacker with midfielder Novy Goetgeluk '25.
- Unfortunately, the Owls did not manage another shot and Swarthmore kept their 1-0 lead.
Bryn Mawr now moves to a 5-3 overall record, 0-1 in conference, while Swarthmore now holds a 6-2 overall record, 2-0 in conference.
The Owls will return to Applebee Field at 1:00pm on Saturday for their second conference game of the season as they welcome Franklin & Marshall to campus.
