CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Bryn Mawr soccer program traveled to Washington College earlier Wednesday to compete in their second Centennial Conference match-up of the 2023 season. The game came down to the last 44.1 seconds as the Shorewomen scored the lone goal of the game off a penalty kick.
Highlights:
- The Owls had their best chance to score on two tries in the 11th minute with shots by captain Sarah Lohrey '25 and Lucia Engelhardt '27, but to no avail. Lohrey's shot off a free kick went off the head of a Washington defender before it rang off the right post. Engelhardt took the rebound, but the Washington goalkeeper made the save.
- Washington College had their own scoring opportunity at 37:33 as Shorewomen Ellen Daly shot from the left, but the Owls' goalkeeper Natalia Chorzepa '26 stopped the shot, and the teams were scoreless going into halftime.
- The Owls' last shot of the game was recorded at 13:55 by Sophia Kearns '27, but it went wide left.
- With only one minute left on the clock, fans assumed the game would end in a tie. However, with 44.1 seconds left, the Shorewomen were awarded a penalty kick due to a Bryn Mawr foul. Washington College Reagan Longridge shot into the upper left corner of the goal for the game-winning goal.
Bryn Mawr is now 2-3-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
