Owls Showcase Strong Play in Home Match

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr volleyball program played a tight three setter against the visiting Penn State Abington earlier Friday evening. The teams last met in 2010 with a 3-0 win for Bryn Mawr. However, the results of this evening's match would be flipped with a 3-0 win for Penn State Abington (25-17, 25-16, 25-13). Despite the loss, the Owls took the lead eight times throughout the match, four of which occured in the first set.

Highlights:
  • The Owls came out hot and heavy as they gained the lead three times in the first 11 points.
  • Trailing 7-4 to the Owls, the Nittany Lions went on offensive to tie the set 9-9 and quickly take their own four point lead.
  • The Owls recorded a four point rally to retie the game at 16-16, but the Nittany Lions won the next nine out of 10 points and won the set 25-17.
  • Trailing 19-14 in the second set, Emma Loller '27 stunted the Nittany Lion's four rally run with the Owls' first block of the evening.
  • Only two points later, Elise Perry 26' won the Owls' last rally of the set with a kill off a Penn State block error before the Nittany Lions took a two-set lead.
  • The Owls struggled to find their footing in the first half of the third set as the visiting team led 21-11, but Bryn Mawr proved relentless as Loller tallied two more kills before the Nittany Lions finished the match 25-13.
The Owls will rest for the weekend and return to the court on Thursday for an evening match at Keystone.
