BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr volleyball team competed in one of their most competitive matches in conference this season against Ursinus on Wednesday evening in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium as the Owls recorded 86 total attacks and five blocks. Despite the Owls' strong efforts, Ursinus won the evening (25-15, 25-17, 25-16).
The Owls were led by
Zoe Boxill with six kills and
Omi Oliver with 11 assists while Boxill,
Anna Dravk, and
Emma Loller each recorded a service ace.
Ursinus was led by Caroline Sherman with 10 kills and Rachel Bernard with 16 assists.
Highlights:
- Boxill recorded an ace for the Owls to tie the match 3-3. The match would see another tie at 5-5 after a Micah Sheppard kill and Ursinus attack error.
- The Owls kept a tight set until the Bears took an offensive turn with kills by Haley Spotts and Eglinton while Bernard recorded two aces to give the Bears a 21-9 lead.
- The Bears struggled to close the set as they recorded four straight errors, but a kill by Spotts gave the visiting team a 1-0 lead.
- Bryn Mawr earned an early 3-1 lead in the second set after a Dravk service ace and Boxill kill.
- The teams fought over the lead for the next 10 points before Ursinus found a break to record the next five rallies, two of which were service aces by Sherman.
- The Owls soon found an offensive groove to reduce the Bears' lead to 15-14, but after a few Bryn Mawr errors, Ursinus retook control for a second set win.
- The Owls kept the third set close to tie the match three times, but an eight rally win for the Bears proved difficult to overcome.
- Boxill, Feldman, Perry, and Sheppard each recorded a kill for the Owls, but it was not enough as the Bears eventually won the set 25-16.
Bryn Mawr will return on Saturday for their final match of the season for a 1pm start time as they welcome McDaniel to the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
