Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Owls volleyball team played their home opener earlier Saturday afternoon, as Bryn Mawr welcomed Keystone to campus for a non-conference showdown. Despite losing a tough first set, Bryn Mawr battled back to win the next three frames and clinch a 3-1 win on the day. Elise Perry led the Owls with 15 kills on the day while fellow first-year Anna Dravk notched 30 assists on the afternoon. Keystone was led by a nine-kill performance from Rebecca Jackson.
Bryn Mawr and Keystone traded points left and right early on in the opening set, as the two sides stayed neck-and-neck through the midway point of the frame. However, Keystone took a 12 point streak at 23-11 due to a handful of Bryn Mawr errors and a strong serving run from the Giants. The Owls continued to fight, but ultimately the Giants took the first set by a 25-12 score.
Despite the tough start, Bryn Mawr immediately bounced back in the second frame and took an early lead by a score of 5-1. The Giants would battle back to tie things up at 10-10, causing the Owls to take a time-out. Senior
Sydney Collins hyped up her team with a huge block to give the Owls a 14-11 lead.
Elise Perry hit a beautiful kill as the crowd roared and the score turned to 16-13, leading the way to an 8-point run for the Owls. After a quick pause to wipe off the court, sophomore
Abigail Koppisch hit a clean ace late in the frame to help the Owls win the second set 25-15.
The third set was another back-and-forth battle the whole way. The Owls used a five point run late in the frame to take a 20-18 lead, but Keystone battled back and ultimately forced the set into extra points. A big kill from
Zoe Boxill helped get Bryn Mawr some momentum, and then after an attack error by the Owls,
Sydney Munnerlyn threw down a huge block to give Bryn Mawr a 26-25 lead. One more error from the Giants clinched the set in favor of Bryn Mawr at 27-25.
With only one set left to win the match, Bryn Mawr was eager to get back on court and take home a win. The Owls took a quick lead in set four with kills by
Elise Perry and
Micah Sheppard thanks to nice feeds from
Anna Dravk.
Sydney Collins later added an ace, and Bryn Mawr kept a solid lead throughout the fourth set with an average of a five-point lead.
Zoe Boxill hit an incredible kill to give the Owls a seven-point lead of 20-13. The Giants refused to give up the fight, but eventually went down as the Owls closed out the fourth and final set 25-19 to take the 3-1 win on the day.
Bryn Mawr now moves to 1-1 on the season, and the Owls will be right back in action on Tuesday night at home against Immaculata.
