Volleyball Falls to Haverford

Box Score

The Owls travelled to Haverford on Wednesday evening for a Centennial Conference matchup against the Fords. Despite a strong effort from Bryn Mawr, Haverford proved to be the stronger team.

Bryn Mawr kept the match tight early in the first set with a 2-2 tie thanks to a beautiful kill by first-year Elise Perry. The Owls and Fords continued to battle it out as each team grabbed points along the way. Followed by a kill from senior Sydney Collins and a Haverford attack error, the match was again tied (8-8). However, from there Haverford kicked into action, grabbing the next four points. Showing her resilience, Perry broke the Ford's streak by hitting her second kill of the match to reduce the Ford's lead to four points (10-14). The Owls continued to battle hard in the first set, but only managed to win another five points before Haverford closed the set (15-25).

Both teams again kept the match tight early in the second set, the Owls trailing by one point after first-year Anna Dravk made her first kill of the match to bring the score to 3-4. After losing the next two points, Bryn Mawr kicked into gear to grab a four-point streak after a service ace by Elise Perry followed by a kill from sophomore Zoe Boxill. Now leading 7-6, all looked like the Owls may make a run. However, Haverford returned the favor by taking the next seven points to bring the set to 7-13. Yet, the Owls were not deterred by this quick turnaround. Zoe Boxill grabbed another two points for her team after some impressive kills, bringing the score to 9-14. A few glimmers of hope appeared as Perry and Collins each claimed another kill for the Owls, but Haverford shut the door winning four of the last five points of the set (15-25).

The Owls were off to a rocky start in the third set as the Fords took an early 4-0 lead. However, at 6-1, Bryn Mawr won the next three points as Anna Dravk made a kill followed by two service aces by first-year Micah Sheppard. Although it looked like Bryn Mawr might make a comeback, Haverford refused to give up their lead. The Fords grabbed a few more kills to stretch their lead to nine (4-13). After a Haverford error which broke the team's seven-point streak, Perry stepped in to hit an outstanding service ace (6-13). Yet, from that point on Haverford maintained their lead. Zoe Boxill and Sydney Collins each earned another kill, but the Fords ultimately won the third set (13-25) and claimed the match (0-3).

The Owls currently hold a 6-6 record and will be on the road again on Thursday for another night match, this time facing off against King's (Pa.).
