Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – In the second of four straight home games, the Bryn Mawr basketball team looked to find their first conference win of the season as they faced the McDaniel Green Terror in the Class of 1958 Gym Saturday afternoon. The Owls put up a resilient fight against the Green Terror, forging a comeback in the second half, but the late rally would not be enough as Bryn Mawr fell 68-44. The game marks the closest final margin for the Owls in a Centennial Conference game and their most points versus a conference opponent this season. Jessica Smith led Bryn Mawr with 16 points while Sydney Collins led the team in rebounds with 13. For the Green Terror, the team of Mallory Conroy and Katie Klein led with 15 points each.
McDaniel struck first in the Centennial Conference showdown, but Bryn Mawr's Ella Kotsen responded to put the Owls within two. Despite a back-and-forth contest, the Green Terror found their momentum to go on a seven-point run before a foul brought Smith to the line who would end the streak with back-to-back free throws, putting the score at 9-4. While Bryn Mawr looked to close in on McDaniel, another run by the Green Terror proved costly as the Owls only added four more points, causing the scoreboard to sit at 22-8 after the first.
Smith kicked off the second quarter, adding two for Bryn Mawr, to which Conroy matched with a layup and shortly after, a three-point shot. The Green Terror earned eight of the next ten points to extend their lead at 31-10, but earning her first points of the game, Sydney Collins found a jump shot to stop McDaniel's momentum. While the Green Terror went on to have a six-point run, it was Bryn Mawr who closed out the first half in dominant fashion as they answered with a five-point run of their own to put the scoreboard at 37-17.
After the half, both teams came out looking stronger than ever as they'd meet point for point the first two minutes of the quarter however, a layup by Smith spearheaded a phenomenal nine-point run for the Owls, bringing the score to 42-30. The McDaniel duo of Conroy and Klein would combine for six points, to not only end Bryn Mawr's run but also close the door on the third quarter as the score sat at 49-32 with just ten minutes of gameplay left.
The fourth quarter nearly mirrored the start of the third as both teams hit the court with every bit of fight on display, matching point for point again. McDaniel's short four-point run was quickly interrupted by Smith and Collins who went on a five-point run to bring the score to 59-43. Unfortunately for the Owls, a monstrous nine-point run by the Green Terror sealed the win for them as the clock wound down and the final score sat at 68-44.
