Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Behind a seventh minute goal and three second-half tallies in a 28 minute stretch, the visiting Franklin & Marshall Diplomats shut out the Bryn Mawr women's soccer team 4-0 on Saturday.
The Diplomats, ranked 24th in the latest United Soccer Coaches National poll, improve to 7-1-3, 2-1-2 in the Centennial Conference, while the Owls drop to 1-8-2, 0-5 in Conference play.
The visitors claimed the early advantage as Alison Francis buried her fifth goal of the season. Jostling in the midfield led to a Diplomats free kick along the right sideline 30 yards from goal. Although the initial delivery was handled by Owl goalkeeper Natalia Chorzepa, Bryn Mawr gave the ball right back as they tried to quick-strike on the counter. This time, Delaney Bessel's delivery found Francis, who settled possession after mis-hitting a volley and roofed a left-footed laser under the crossbar.
Bryn Mawr held the Diplomats off the board for the next 50 minutes, but failed to make headway against an F&M defense that has conceded just three times in 2022, and only once since September 7.
In the 59th minute, the visitors doubled their advantage as Sierra Brophy received a cross from the left with her back to goal and lay a pass off to Lainie Anderson, who finished first-time with her left foot into the side-netting to the left of Chorzepa.
Eleven minutes later, it was Brophy herself slicing a first-time finish with her right foot into the same corner of the Owls goal. And with three minutes to play, a collision in front of the Bryn Mawr goal left Zoe Warne alone on the doorstep to cap the scoring with her first collegiate goal.
First-year Daniela Dosen took the lone shot in the game for the Owls, who return to the field on Wednesday as they host Muhlenberg. Bryn Mawr defeat the Mules last season 2-1, finding the winner in the 90th minute. Kickoff is set for 4PM.
