Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball program played in their second to last match of the season against Franklin & Marshall earlier Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats stand at third in the conference, but the Owls refused to let this affect their play. Although both teams made a similar number of attacks throughout the match, Franklin & Marshall made more kills and hit fewer errors and the Diplomats earned the win (10-25, 9-25, 8-25).
The match appeared to be off to a great start for Bryn Mawr after Elise Perry hit a kill from a set by Anna Dravk to take the first rally of the match. However, the Diplomats quickly took a four point lead. At 3-7, Zoe Boxill took her first swing of the match, but her shot missed wide. However, Boxill's swing the next point found the court and Bryn Mawr won the rally to bring the score to 4-8. After a Bryn Mawr timeout at 4-10, the Owls won the next point after Bryn Mawr perfectly set up Sydney Munnerlyn for a kill. Although the Diplomats won the next nine of twelve rallies, Bryn Mawr was not willing to give up without a fight. Elise Perry, Zoe Boxill, and Sydney Munnerlyn each earned a kill before the home team won the set (10-25).
Franklin & Marshall simply outplayed the Owls in the second set. Koppisch hit a service ace early in the set and Elize Perry and Zoe Boxill each hit a kill, but the Diplomats made minimal errors and won the set 9-25.
The third set began similar to the first with a kill by Elise Perry. However, from then on, the Diplomats went on the attack until they earned match point with the Owls trailing behind by 18 points. Yet, the Owls proved to be resilient until the very end. Refusing to play defensively, Elise Perry hit kills to save two match points. However, the Diplomats finally found their opportunity and won the final point (8-25). Overall, the Owls played their cleanest match of the season, committing only 10 errors.
Bryn Mawr will return to the road on Tuesday to play their last match against Swarthmore.
