Owls Snap Haverford Win Streak

Box Score

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Owls traveled to their rivaling school Haverford on Wednesday for an afternoon game. Although Haverford held the series record, the Owls stepped on to the field with their heads held high as they prepared for a strong outing.

The game was already looking up for first-year Lucy Heyman who started the game in goal for the first time this season. Haverford took a head start, quickly going on the attack. A few seconds shy of the 15-minute mark, the Fords took the first shot of the day. However, Heyman stood her ground and made the save. Paige Mastripolito made her own shot about six minutes later, but it sailed wide. The rest of the half was mainly played near the Bryn Mawr goal. Lucy Heyman had her work cut out for her but showed to be strong in net and refused to let any ball past. Mastripolito made one additional shot before the end of the half, but it again flew wide.

All hope seemed lost as Haverford scored a goal less than three minutes into the second half. Yet, this moment seemed to be a turning point for the Owls. Throughout the next ten minutes Bryn Mawr became more aggressive as Sarah Lohrey and Daniella Dosen each had shots on net. Although neither scored, it was only a matter of time before the most shocking and exciting moment of the game occurred.

With 29:30 remaining on the clock, the Owls were given the ball near their goalpost after a Haverford foul. Heyman took the ball, shooting it high into the air to Daniela Dosen who was around midfield. Dosen quickly turned around towards the Haverford goal and followed suit with her teammate, to shoot the ball down the field towards the end goal. Teammates Paige Mastripolito and Koren Woznicki ran towards the ball with two Haverford defenders on their tails. Woznicki gained possession and immediately passed it to Mastripolito who produced a perfect aim into the lefthand corner of the net to score a Bryn Mawr goal. Bryn Mawr players and Owls' fans alike went wild. This was only the second time since 1992 that Bryn Mawr scored a goal on Haverford. The first was three seasons ago in 2019.

Mastripolito's goal proved to be the last shot made by the Owls. Although Haverford continued to try to break the tie, Heyman played a strong defensive game and managed to keep every shot out of the net. Bryn Mawr ended Haverford's long standing win streak as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Bryn Mawr will return to their home field on Saturday for a game against Franklin & Marshall.
