Soccer Falls to Franklin & Marshall

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Looking to end their four-game losing streak, the Bryn Mawr soccer team took to the road Saturday evening as they traveled to Lancaster to face the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats at Tylus Field. While the Owls tried to hold a dominant attack from Franklin & Marshall early on, the Diplomats proved to be too strong as Bryn Mawr fell 0-5. Goalkeeper Grecia Prieto walked away from the contest with eight saves, while the Owls managed five shots.

The Diplomats came out strong in the first half with a shot from Sarah Marsan, followed by a corner kick by Meg O'Callahan, but neither picked up the early go-ahead goal. Bryn Mawr's Isabelle Kuszyk struck first for the Owls in the 5th minute with a shot of her own, but the ball met the hands of goalkeeper Emily Senko as she picked up her first save. Franklin & Marshall kept the pressure coming at goalkeeper Grecia Prieto with five straight shots and while Prieto looked solid in the net, picking up two saves, the fifth shot found its way behind her and gave the Diplomats their first goal of the game.

Franklin & Marshall wouldn't let up the momentum as they quickly followed with another three shots, hoping to take a two-goal advantage, but the Owls' backline rallied behind Prieto to keep the Diplomats at one. Elizabeth Hummel stepped up to the plate in the 25th minute for the Owls, firing a shot at Senko who once again, picked up the save. With the advantage on their side, Franklin & Marshall looked to pick up one more goal before the end of the first half and after two missed opportunities, a shot in the 37th minute by Delaney Bessel sailed into the back of the goal and put the Diplomats up two. With less than eight minutes remaining in the half, Koren Woznicki looked to put the Owls on the board and lessen the lead by one, but her shot flew just high of the crossbar and took Bryn Mawr into halftime trailing by two.

The second half saw a very quick goal just 27 seconds into its start, as Franklin & Marshall seized a breakaway and increased their lead by three. Elizabeth Kiely looked to respond for the Owls with her first shot of the game, however Senko, looking stronger than ever in the goal, picked up her third save of the night. The Diplomats unleashed a flurry of shots beginning in the 57th minute, looking to waver Prieto, but she'd pick up two more huge saves before Franklin & Marshall found their goal-scoring chance and capitalized to up the score 0-4. Hoping to start some momentum for Bryn Mawr, Hummel would take another shot before the 60th minute, but her shot went wide of the goal and kept the Owls scoreless. Mere minutes later, in the 62nd minute, the Diplomats landed their fifth goal of the game by O'Callahan.

With Bryn Mawr trailing, the next 15 minutes of game play turned into a game of keep-away by Franklin & Marshall as they looked to hold the Owls and pick up the shutout. The Diplomats fired off six more shots, while Prieto added three more saves, bringing her game total to eight. Unfortunately, the Owls were unable to find a goal-scoring opportunity the remainder of the game as the clock hit 0:00.00 and the final score sat at 0-5.

The Owls remain on the road for their next contest as they head to Allentown, Pa. to face Muhlenberg at 4:00 PM.
