Bryn Mawr Takes On Challenge In Gettysburg Road Trip

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr Owls traveled out to Centennial Confence foe Gettysburg earlier Thursday night for a battle against the league leaders. It was certainly a battle for the Owls the whole way, with Bryn Mawr being led by six points from Halena Martin and five apiece from May Hanlon and Ella Kotsen. Gettysburg showcased a deep bench and terrific offense the whole way, ultimately pulling away to a 79-25 win on the night.

Gettysburg started the game by scoring the opening three baskets of the night, but Bryn Mawr kept things close early with several key baskets of their own in the first quarter. Ella Kotsen provided an early answer for the Owls, knocking down a three-pointer to cut the Bryn Mawr deficit in half. That also marks the third straight game with at least one three-pointer made for Kotsen. A little bit later, Halena Martin made a nice drive for a basket, scoring through contact to earn an and-one opportunity. The senior sank the ensuing free throw, making it a 10-6 game midway through the first quarter.

Unfortunately, the Owls went on an extended scoring drought from there, allowing Gettysburg to go on a 20-1 run that lasted into the second quarter. The Owls finally stopped the bleeding thanks to a three-ball from May Hanlon, but the Bullets hit one more basket before halftime to take a 37-10 lead into the break.

Lipi Paladugu got the Owls on the board early in the third quarter to open the Bryn Mawr scoring, but the Bullets once again put a big run together to extend their lead. When Hanlon knocked down a pair of free throws at the end of the frame, the Owls then trailed 60-14. In the fourth quarter, the offense started to roll a little better. Martin got the scoring going with a jumper off of an assist from Brendan Harrison, and then Megan Murray-Bruce used some strong work down low to get a layup in the paint. She would then score again on the Owls' next possession. Sydney Collins knocked down three free throws later in the quarter, and Kotsen closed out the game with one final basket of her own.

Bryn Mawr will be back in action on Saturday, as the Owls will close out their busy week with a trip to Swarthmore. Gametime against the Tri-Co opponent is set for 2:00 PM on Saturday.
