Owls Fall In Tough Match At Cedar Crest

Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball squad was back at it on Thursday night with a non-conference battle at Cedar Crest. Bryn Mawr fought hard throughout the matchup, notching 12 kills in the match, but Cedar Crest held serve on their home court to take a 3-0 win. Nicole Wood led the Owls with six kills and 13 digs on the night, while three other Owls notched kills as well.

The first set got off to a very even start, as Cedar Crest jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Owls answered back thanks to an attack error and an ace from Sydney Collins. Later, Sydney Munnerlyn and Wood each added kills to help the Owls keep it close with the Falcons. Then, Wood paired up another kill and an ace on back-to-back points to draw Bryn Mawr back within two points. Unfortunately, the Falcons ran off 10 straight points to take a commanding lead in the set. Wood and Collins tallied another kill each, but it wasn't enough to turn the tide, and the hosts claimed the opener 25-10.

The Falcons used the momentum from winning that first frame to jump out to a quick lead in the second as well. Munnerlyn added another kill to her tally, but Cedar Crest won nine of the first ten points to take command. Jess DeJoie and Nicole Wood added back-to-back kills to stop that rally, and later DeJoie and Wood added another kill each along with an ace from Collins to draw Bryn Mawr back within 15-7. Wood would add one more kill in the set off of a nice feed from Alanna Mora-Mickens, but Cedar Crest would not be chased down and ultimately won the frame 25-9.

The third set would be a similar story to the second, as despite an early kill from Wood, Cedar Crest would vault ahead to a 17-2 advantage. Bryn Mawr would get three more points in the frame on errors by the Falcons, but the hosts' defense and offense combined to shut out the Owls otherwise, as they closed out the match with a 25-5 win of the final set.

The Owls now get a weekend off before getting back in action next Wednesday at home. Bryn Mawr will welcome Washington College to campus on Wednesday night for their first Centennial Conference home match of the season. Gametime on Wednesday is set for 7:00 PM.
