Bryn Mawr Volleyball Celebrates Senior Nolan Julien In Final Match Of Season

BRYN MAWR, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr Volleyball team played in their final match of the 2017-2018 season earlier on Saturday, October 28th. The Owls welcomed Ursinus College to their home court as they celebrated the Bryn Mawr Athletics first-ever Homecoming and Senior Day for their lone senior. Fans and Alumnae filled the bleachers to witness Nolan Julien play in her final match as an Owl. Despite falling 0-3 to Ursinus, Bryn Mawr proved to be a great contender during the match.

Eliza Todd led the Owls with eight kills, a hitting percentage of .304, four block assists, and nine defensive digs. Jessie Zong also had a great match for the Owls as well posting six kills and 5 digs during the match. Setter Nolan Julien had 19 assists, two kills and seven digs.

Bryn Mawr came out strong in the first set, getting out to an early 6-2 lead over Ursinus. Three back to back kills from Eliza Todd, Jesie Zong and Jess DeJoie powered the Owls' strong start. Thereafter Ursinus turned up the heat and began to match Bryn Mawr's initial intensity. The Bears went on a five-point run and quickly gained the lead for the match. Ursinus went on to close out the frame with a win (25-19) however not before Eliza Todd landed two kills for the Owls.

The second set was very close until the finish for both teams. Early errors on behalf of Ursinus and a kill from Allison Raff placed the teams at a 2-2 tie. The two teams continued to rally back and forth against each other exchanging the lead multiple times. A later kill from Eliza Todd ignited a six-point run for the Owls and put the pressure on Ursinus. Ursinus then responded with a kill from Allison Raff and attempted to land two more kills, however the Bears were shut down thanks to assisted blocks from Sienna Burnett and Jess DeJoie  (16-9). After landing a kill from Eliza Todd the Owls were so close to clenching a win for the frame (25-25). However it was a blocking error that got in their way and favored Ursinus. Ursinus went on to win the last two points of the frame and close out the set with a win (27-25) after coming back from a six-point deficit.

Bryn Mawr still had hope in the last frame. Energy from the crowd helped the team get to another early lead (4-0). However, their momentum slowly began to dwindle after Ursinus gained the lead went on a five point run thereafter (5-4). A kill from Jessie Zong tied the teams at 6-6. Ursinus proved to be the stronger competitor of the day and closed out the frame with a 25-14 win over the Owls.

The Owls close out their season and say good-bye to their senior Nolan Julien, who will be greatly missed next year.
