Owls Volleyball Falls on Road at McDaniel

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team hit the road after a brief homestand looking to make some hay in the Centennial Conference earlier Saturday. Unfortunately, the Owls found tough sledding against conference rivals McDaniel, as the Green Terror were all over Bryn Mawr from the start in a tough 3-0 loss. Caroline Cosby once again led Bryn Mawr with six kills on the day. Allie Nagelski kept her sparkling senior season going on the defensive side as she recorded 25 digs in the contest. That effort was good enough to vault her to the top of the Centennial Conference with 5.16 digs per set.

McDaniel (7-9, 1-1 Centennial) took control of the match early with emphatic wins in the first and second sets. In the first, Bryn Mawr (2-8, 0-2 Centennial) was able to stay close in the beginning thanks in part to kills from Cosby, Camille Baechler, and Sarah Whitten. However, leading 14-6, McDaniel closed the first set out with an 11-2 run to win it 25-8. The second set was more of the same from the Green Terror, as the hosts used an 8-0 run right from the start to open up a commanding 16-3 lead in the set. The Owls tried to battle back, and slowly but surely were able to dig out of the hole. Another kill from Cosby got visitors to 10-24, but McDaniel easily held on to take the 2-0 lead in the match.

The third set started out much better for Bryn Mawr. Baechler, Cosby, and Delia Landers each tallied kills in the opening run of play. Later, a kill from Sienna Burnett gave the Owls a 9-8 lead in the set. Unfortunately for Bryn Mawr, that was the final lead they'd see in the frame, as McDaniel jumped back out in front and then used a 10-0 run to salt away the contest.

Bryn Mawr will look to bounce back when they return to action next week. The Owls will stay on the road for a matchup against Ursinus College, with the game set for Wednesday night at 7:00 PM.
