Soccer Comeback Falls Just Short at Neumann

Box Score

ASTON, Pa. - Bryn Mawr soccer was back in action earlier Tuesday in another competitive contest against a local rival. The Owls took on Neumann University, and despite falling behind early did a great job of battling and staying in the contest. Freshman Genevieve Main tallied her first collegiate goal to dray Bryn Mawr back within striking distance, but it proved to be just a bit less than needed as the Knights held on for a 3-1 win in the contest.

Neumann (3-4) controlled play early on, notching the first shot of the game and most of the early possession. However, Bryn Mawr (1-3-1) did a great job staying in the game and battling back, and had a great run of their own midway through the period. In particular, Alexis Boutchie and Katherine Nickols paired up to get three shots off in a 16-second span, but Neumann's Anna Attardi was able to keep the ball out of her net. A few minutes later, Main tallied her first shot of the contest as well, but once again Attardi made a good save. Neumann controlled much of the rest of the half from there, and the hosts finally broke through on the scoresheet in the 36th minute. Kristina Yocum was able to sneak a ball into the net on a long shot from outside the box, putting the Knights ahead 1-0.

The hosts would double their lead ten minutes into the second half, this time on a goal off the counterattack after a Bryn Mawr shot. However, Bryn Mawr was not ready to give up just yet, as the visitors did a great job maintaining their shape and counterattacking when the opportunities arose. The Owls finally were able to capitalize on one of those opportunities in the 77th minute, as Genevieve Main made a great individual play to get on the scoreboard. Main's goal was the first of her collegiate career, and it drew the Owls back within one. Unfortunately, that would be as close as they could get, as Neumann registered an insurance goal on the very next play, going ahead 3-1 and hanging on for the win.

The Owls will look to keep the positive play rolling when they get back into action this weekend. Bryn Mawr will travel to McDaniel on Saturday for their first action against a Centennial Conference opponent. Saturday's game is slated to start at 4:00 PM.
