Owls Volleyball Drops Tough Road Contest at F&M

Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr volleyball team went on the road to Lancaster earlier Saturday afternoon for yet another challenging Centennial Conference matchup. On this day, the Owls faced a hot Franklin & Marshall team that came into the match on a three-match winning streak. Unfortunately for the Owls, Bryn Mawr could do little to slow the Diplomats' roll. The hosts shut down Bryn Mawr's offensive attack for the most part in a 3-0 win. Camille Baechler tallied four kills for the Owls to lead the way, while Allie Nagelski and Kira Ogoshi combined for 16 digs on the day. Franklin & Marshall featured three players with double-digit kills, including 12 each from Christine Yoo and Sarah Landry.

Bryn Mawr (2-10, 0-4 CC) started out well in the first set, as kills from Baechler and Caroline Cosby kept the set tied up at 3-3. However, Franklin & Marshall (11-5, 3-1 CC) quickly took control of things from that point, as a 5-0 run put them ahead 11-4. The Owls tried to battle back and stay in the set, with kills from Cosby and Sienna Burnett drawing the visitors back within 6. Still, it was not enough to throw the Diplomats off, as they went on another run of 8-0 to put the set virtually out of reach. Sarah Whitten was able to find an ace with a great serve, and another kill from Cosby got the Owls just a bit closer. Ultimately, it was not enough, as the Diplomats took the first set in 25-14 fashion.

With that momentum from taking the first set, the Diplomats were able to salt the rest of the game away in straight sets. Bryn Mawr was held to just three kills over the next two sets, but despite that, they still managed to stay in games. Errors from the Diplomats and some solid defensive play by the Owls got them to 10 points in the second set and 14 in the third, but it just wasn't enough to match the high-octane offense of the hosts. Ultimately, Franklin & Marshall was able to hang on for the 3-0 win in the match.

The Owls will look to rebound next week when they get back in action for a two-match homestand. Bryn Mawr will first welcome Muhlenberg to campus, with that match slated as a 7:00 PM start on Wednesday, October 5th. Dickinson will come to town on the weekend for a Saturday match set to start at 1:00 PM.
