Seniors Celebrated in Soccer's Match Against Johns Hopkins

Box Score

Bryn Mawr, Pa. – Bryn Mawr's faced off against Johns Hopkins earlier Saturday afternoon in what was also a fantastic celebration for Senior Day. The Owls honored the careers of their seven senior players before the match, and in a hard-fought display worthy of the day, Bryn Mawr was able to limit the number six team in the nation to just five goals on Applebee Field. Goalkeeper Aviva Kosansky made some beautiful stops in a nine-save effort.

Before the contest, the Owls celebrated the careers of Kelli Breeden, Genesis Feliz, Marian Slocum, Lindsey Lyons, Tahlisa Brougham, Makala Forster, and Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins, all of whom were joined by their families on the field to honor all of the hard work and dedication they put into the program.

When the festivities were finally over, Johns Hopkins (14-2, 8-0 Cent.) wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, taking a quick lead with a pair of goals just 35 seconds apart in the fourth minute of play. Both were on quality strikes into the corners of the net, with nothing Kosansky could do about them. The Owls (5-10-1, 1-7-1 Cent.) were pinned in their own end for a majority of the first half, unable to register a shot in the period against a very strong Blue Jays team. Hopkins proved why they are one of the best programs in the country as the half continued, using solid ball control and buildup to create two more goals in the frame.

The Owls were determined to slow that attack down in the second half, and they were able to do just that, limiting the visitors to just one more goal in the contest. Kosansky had a great deal to do with that, making several sprawling saves to protect the net as Hopkins continued to pepper the frame with shots. Bryn Mawr's offense also managed to get going in the second half as well. In the 53rd minute, senior Marian Slocum tallied the Owls first shot on goal, but Blue Jays goalkeeper Bess Kitzmiller did a solid job getting her body in front of the ball to stop the shot. A few seconds later, Veronica Roux managed to gain some space and fire a ball on the frame, but Kitzmiller once again saved the effort, protecting the 5-0 shutout win for the visitors.

Bryn Mawr now gets a few days off before their final contest of the 2014 season. The Owls will play host to nearby rival Swarthmore on Wednesday, October 29th. The Garnet bring a 9-6 record into the contest, coming off a 2-0 loss today to Montclair State. The Owls will be looking to end their season on a high note with a victory over the visitors, and that opportunity will get underway at 3:00 PM on Applebee Field.
