BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College volleyball team won a pair of games at their home tri-match to start the 2013 season. The Owls opened the day with a 3-0 ( 25-15, 25-17, 25-20) blanking of New Jersey City University before defeating Wesley College 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-23) later in the day.

In the morning match against NJCU, the Owls were led by the eight kills from sophomore Sarah Gates. Gates added a pair of block assists and one service ace. Junior Samantha Abbott added five kills for the game and two total blocks.

Junior Ellen Chiu and sophomore Rachel Ofili added three kills each while junior co-captain Danielle Preziuso handed out 17 assists. Leading the Owls service against the Gothic Knights was sophomore Zoe Holman who posted a match-best five aces.

In the afternoon match against Wesley, the Owls came out on fire as the won the first game handily. However, a late run in the set game from the Wolverines had Bryn Mawr on their heels; the Owls were able to pull out the win. The third game of the match was tied at 23-all before back-to-back attack errors by Wesley gave Bryn Mawr the 3-0 sweep.

It was Gates again leading the charge for the Owls in the second game with 10 kills while Abbott added 10 as well. Ofilli smacked-home nine shots while five other Owls recorded kills.

Preziuso dished-out a game-high 33 assists. Abbott added four aces, followed by Holman with three. Holman also added 11 digs.

For the day, Gates posted a team-best 18 kills while Abbott added 15. Preziuso handed-out 50 assists and Holman served up eight aces.

The Owls are back to action when they host PSU-Brandywine on Thursday, Sept. 5, at 7:00 pm inside the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
