Late Goal Lifts Washington College Over Soccer 1-0

Box Score

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – A goal in the 83rd minute of the game propelled the Washington College Shorewomen over visiting Bryn Mawr 1-0 in conference action.

In an opening half that saw the Owls outshoot Washington 3-2, Bryn Mawr was unable to find the back of the net. Two of the three shots came from the foot of freshman Madeleine Mark while the other came from senior Karina Siu. Washington's goalie, Melissa Barry, made a pair of saves while the other shot was blocked in front of the net.

In the second, the Owls and the Shorewomen battled in the midfield but neither team was able to break the deadlocked score.

After a foul called on Bryn Mawr in the box, Washington sent Heather Smith to the line for the penalty kick. As she lined-up and approached the ball, she beat the Owls' goalie Aviva Kosansky to give the Shorewomen the 1-0 late in regulation.

Over the remaining seven minutes, Bryn Mawr was unable to produce any shots which gave the host Shorewomen the 1-0 win, their fourth victory of the season.

Bryn Mawr was outshot 8-5. Mark took four shots while Siu took the other. Kosansky posted four saves in her 90 minutes of work.

Bryn Mawr returns to action when they host Gettysburg on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 1:00 pm.
