Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Bryn Mawr College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-19) setback to rival Washington College Wednesday evening in Centennial Conference action.
Washington rolled in the opening set by jumping out to an early 7-0 lead. In the opening frame, Bryn Mawr managed only seven service opportunities as the Shorewomen won the first set 25-7.
The second set stared in similar fashion to the first as Washington built a quick 5-0 lead. The Owls battled back and pulled within seven, 3-10, their closest margin the remainder of the set as Washington cruised to the 25-12 win.
In the third and final set, it was the Owls that opened the set with a hot hand as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Washington tied the set and started to pull away but Bryn Mawr reeled them back in as they knotted the game at 12-12 with a kill from sophomore Noemi Moreno. From that point, the Shorewomen pushed their lead to five, 20-15, before ultimately winning 25-19.
Pacing the Owls on the evening was sophomore Rachel Ofili. She tallied a team-best seven kills while classmates Sarah Gates and Moreno added three each. Gated tallied a game-high four total blocks while sophomore Zoe Holman handed-out 15 assists.
Holman also recorded eight digs while senior Miranda McDevitt and Moreno added six each.
The Owls return to action when they travel to Mount Holyoke for the 2013 Seven Sisters Championships this weekend. The Owls open the weekend with a match against the Wellesley Blue at 12:30 pm Saturday afternoon.
