Box Score 2 SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Junior Samantha Abbott posted 22 kills on the opening day of the 2013 Seven Sisters Championships as the Owls fell to Wellesley 3-1 (25-21, 24-26, 25-8, 25-19) and host Mount Holyoke 3-2 (17-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12).
In the day's opening match, Abbott paced Bryn Mawr with nine kills against Wellesley. She added two total blocks and four digs. Sophomore Rachel Ofili tallied eight kills while classmate Noemi Moreno tacked-on seven.
Sophomore Zoe Holamn handed-out 28 assists and senior Miranda McDevitt added 12 digs. Ofili had a team-high four total blocks while freshman Megan Kilmer tallied a pair of blocks.
To conclude day 1 action, the Owls were locked into a battle with the host Lyons. Mount Holyoke eventually scored the 3-2 win by the power of Emma Sweeting's 22 kills.
For the Yellow and White, Abbott and Ofili recorded 13 kills each while Moreno added nine and sophomore Sarah Gates added seven. Holman handed out a game-high 39 assists. Ofili ended the game with four total blocks while Holman added two and gates recorded one.
The Owls are back to action Sunday morning for the conclusion of the championships as they play Smith at 9:00 am and Vassar at 11:00 am.
