Box Score CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Bryn Mawr College volleyball team had their hands full with host Washington College as the Shorewomen edged the Owls, 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-12), in both school's Centennial Conference Opener.
Washington led in the first set 15-8 before Bryn Mawr battled back behind the service of sophomore Avary Taylor (pictured) to pull within three, 15-12. The Owls later got within one, 19-18, before the Shorewomen outscored Bryn Mawr 6-2 the rest of the set to claim set one.
The second set saw the Owls take an early lead, but it was short lived as Washington took a commanding 10-5 lead. The Owls, down but not out, charged back again behind Taylor's services that got Bryn Mawr within one, 13-12. Following a service error, Washington retook control of the set, eventually winning it 25-17.
In the third and final set, the Shorewomen started the set on an 8-0 run. With a steep deficit to overcome, Bryn Mawr was unable to gain any momentum to get back into the set.
For the Owls, freshman Rachel Ofili posted a team-best eight kills while sophomore Ellen Chiu tallied six. Sophomore Danielle Preziuso dished-out 17 assists as freshman Claire Johnson dug nine shots.
Ofili led the front line with four total blocks as Chiu and Taylor added a pair of block assists.
The Owls are back to action when they host McDaniel on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 1:00 pm inside the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
