Volleyball's Rally Falls Short Against Arcadia

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr College volleyball team rallied back from down two sets to take the third set before coming-up short in the fourth frame as visiting Arcadia topped the Owls 3-1 (25-21, 28-26, 22-25, 25-22), in non-conference action.

The Owls led by at least one point in every set except in the second as they fell in their home opener Wednesday evening. After holding the Knights over the first-half of the opening set, Arcadia battled back and eventually tied the game at 13. After taking the lead on the next serve, Arcadia outscored the Owls 12-8 to take game one.

In the second set, Arcadia led the entire match before Bryn Mawr tied the game at 24 and 26, with kills from freshman Sarah Gates (pictured) and sophomore Danielle Preziuso. The Knights used a pair of attacking error by the Owls to claim the second set 28-26.

The third set belonged to Bryn Mawr as they led the entire time. Their largest lead of the set was six, when they Owls held a 17-11 advantage. Leading the Owls with five kills each was the tandem of Gates and classmate Rachel Ofili. Gates sealed the third set win with a thunderous kill from Preziuso for the 25th point.

The Owls controlled the whole tempo of the fourth set. With a 20-13 lead, Bryn Mawr was in position to force a deciding fifth set but a sting of Arcadia kills and a pair of Bryn Mawr attack errors reeled the Knights back into set as they pulled within one, 21-20. Following a Bryn Mawr timeout, Arcadia received a pair of kills from Taylor Hoover and two attack errors from the Owls to eke out the 25-22 win.

Leading the Owls with 16 kills each was Gates and Ofili. Preziuso handed out 44 assists while freshman Noemi Moreno recorded 16 digs. Preziuso added 13 digs while freshman Zoe Holman totaled 10.

Covering the defenses front line, Ofili totaled eight blocks (6 assists, 2 solo) while Gates and Preziuso tallied three block assists.

The Owls are back to action when they travel to Neumann University this Friday and Saturday for the annual Knights Invitational. Play starts for the Owls on Friday when they take on PSU-Berks at 8:30 pm. On Saturday they will take on Wesley at 10:00 am, Widener at 2:00 pm and Immaculata at 4:00 pm.
