Box Score 2 Doylestown, Pa. – The Nicole Kelly era of Bryn Mawr College volleyball officially began today as the Owls opened up their 2012 season by splitting a pair of matches with host Delaware Valley and Immaculata.
In the season's opening match, the host Aggies handed Bryn Mawr a 3-0 loss (25-18, 25-12, 25-17). Leading the way for Bryn Mawr was sophomore co-captain Danielle Preziuso with 15 assists, four aces and four digs. Preziuso fed a slew of attackers as five different Owls' recorded kills. The balanced attack was led by freshman Rachel Ofili with six kills while classmates Sarah Gates and Noemi Moreno posted four each.
The Aggies were led by Janel Gluch and Alyssa Riggins with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Crystal Ronan handed out 29 assists and Gina Page recorded 14 digs.
In the days second and final match of the day, Bryn Mawr battled back from a 25-23 1 game set back to win the next three 25-23, 25-22, 25-14, en route to not only the Owls first win of the season, but the first win of Kelly's career as a head coach.
The offense for the Owls came alive as the tandem of Gates and Ofili combined for 24 of Bryn Mawr's 36 kills. Moreno added five kills and junior Miranda McDevitt added three. Preziuso dished out 31 assist while freshman Zoe Holman added 21 digs. Ofili and Moreno added 16 and 13 digs, respectively.
Gates recorded four solo blocks while Ofili and Preziuso each added a block assist. Preziuso tallied four aces while Ofili chipped in three.
The Owls are back to action on Saturday, Sept. 8, when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a quad match. Bryn Mawr will start the day when they play Goucher at 11:00 am, followed by St. Elizabeth at 1:00 pm and host Bryn Athyn at 3:00 pm.
