Box Score LANGHORNE, Pa. – The visiting Bryn Mawr College soccer team netted two goals in each half as they defeated host Cairn, 4-0, in non-league action Thursday afternoon.
Bryn Mawr jumped out to a 1-0 lead when freshman Helena Van Oudenallen (pictured) booted a shot from 35 yards out that dropped underneath the crossbar just out of the reach of goalie Morgan Swan. Van Oudenallen's goal came at 36:24, following back-and-forth action to start the game.
Less than three minutes later freshman Veronica Roux gave the Owls a 2-0 lead when she unleashed a shot from 25 yards out from the center of the field. The goal is Rouxs' second of the season.
In the second-half, it took Bryn Mawr less than 15 minutes to push their lead to three, 3-0. Sophomore Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins netted her third goal of the season from nearly 30 yards out that was sent over the head of Swan to find the back of the net.
The game's final goal was netted by Alexandra Wiegel, her first collegiate goal. Carrying the ball down the left side of the field, sophomore Makala Forster sent a booming cross to the center of box where Weigel controlled the pass and sent the ball into the back of the net.
For the Owls, Dorfsman-Hopkins took a game-high four shots while four other posted two attempts.
Posting four saves en route to her first career shutout was junior Karina Siu. Siu, Bryn Mawr's center back, stepped in between the pipes when starting goalie Rebecca Joseph suffered an injury this week during practice. This is Siu's first start in goal this season and second while donning a Bryn Mawr jersey.
The Yellow and White outshot the Highlanders 13-6 while both teams earned two corner kicks.
With the win, Bryn Mawr is now 10-0 against Cairn, who up until this school year, was known as Philadelphia Biblical University.
The Owls are back to action when they welcome Gettysburg College to Applebee Field on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 12:00 noon.
