COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.– In a back-and-forth match, the Bryn Mawr College volleyball rode the service of Hannah Rosebrock in the fifth set to earn a 3-2 (24-26, 25-13, 21-25, 25-21, 15-9) road victory over Ursinus College Thursday night.

In the fifth and deciding set, Rosebrock took over service with the Owls holding a 10-9 lead thanks to a kill from senior Mikecia Witherspoon. Getting help from three attack errors by the Bears and a pair of Witherspoon kills, Rosebrock closed out the match in fashion with an ace,

After dropping the first set, the Owls made light work of Ursinus by way of 16 kills including a set ending kill from Witherspoon.

The third set saw eight ties before the Bears closed out the Owls for a 25-21 win.

Bryn Mawr was in control of the fourth set from the beginning starting on a 3-0 run. Once the Owls hit doubles digits, Ursinus played catch-up with Bryn Mawr forcing the Bears to make back-to-back hitting errors to win the set and eventually the match.

Leading the Owls and posting a game-best 26 kills (.468) was Witherspoon. Classmate Katie Merrill added 24 kills. In a storied career by Witherspoon and Merrill, tonight was the first time that the senior tandem combined for 50 or more kills in a match.

Freshman Danielle Preziuso dished out a career-high 33 assists while senior Emily Takeuchi-Miller handed out 17.

Leading the Owls in digs was Merrill with 22, followed by Rosebrock (16), sophomore Victoria Peltonen (13) and Witherspoon (10).

As a whole the Owls totaled nine team blocks; Merrill ended the night with four block solos and one block assist.

Bryn Mawr gets back to the hardwood when they host Muhlenberg on Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the Class of 1958 Gymnasium inside the Bern Schwartz Fitness and Athletic Center at 7:00 pm.
