Field Hockey's Late Charge Falls Short to Dickinson

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – With under five minutes to play and down 3-0, the Bryn Mawr College field hockey team unloaded five shots to the cage but were unable to connect as visiting Dickinson College escaped the Main Line victorious Friday evening.

The Owls held Dickinson's offense scoreless for the open 20+ minutes of action before Celeste Pilato took a Katie Mersky pass and found the back of the cage. Despite having a couple more opportunities to score, Bryn Mawr's goalie Faith Westdorp closed the door to keep Dickinson at bay for the next ten minutes.

Dickinson scored their second goal of the half on a stroke when an Owl defender was whistled in the circle. Laura Hitchens flung her shot past a diving Westdorp to give Dickinson a 2-0 lead. The score would stand for the final two minutes of the half.

In the second, the Red Devils got a quick goal from Lauren Wyman to push their lead to three.

Both team battled back-and-forth for twenty five minutes with each team advancing the ball deep into their opponents half of the field.

In the final five minutes of the game, Bryn Mawr took five of their seven shots but was unable to get it past back-up goalie Jaime Rogers.

Westdorp ended the day with 18 saves and senior forward Manya Steinfeld took a team-best four shots. Freshman Maddie Beckmann, Holly Constants and Mika Farbro recorded the other shots for the Owls.

Bryn Mawr will return to action on Saturday, October 15, when they travel to Gettysburg for a 4:30 pm contest.
