BRYN MAWR, Pa.– After falling behind 2-0 to the visiting Muhlenberg College Mules, the Bryn Mawr College volleyball team bounced back with a third set win. In the final set, a replay call by the officials took the momentum from the Owls as they dropped the fourth set 20-25.
In the end, the Mules defeated Bryn Mawr 3-1 (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-20) en route to their 5th win over the season and third in league action. With the loss, the Owls drop to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in Centennial Conference action.
Senior middle hitter Mikecia Witherspoon powered the Owls with 18 kills (.267) and 12 digs. Classmate Katie Merrill also recorded a double-double with 21 digs and 20 kills (.200).
Junior hitter Hannah Rosebrock dug 13 balls, tallied eight kills and one block solo on the evening. Sophomore outside hitter Victoria Peltonen added seven kills, seven digs, and 1 assist.
Handing out a game-high 30 assists was freshman setter Danielle Preziuso. Senior setter Emily Takeuchi-Miller handed-out 15 assists.
As a team, the Owls combined for four blocks with Witherspoon recording three block assists.
The Owls are back to the hardwood this weekend when they travel to Northampton, Mass., for the 2011 Seven Sisters Championship. They start the weekend on Saturday when they play host Wellesley at 10:00 am.
