Siu Makes First Career Start in Goal for the Owls

Box Score

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – After an injury to back-up goalkeeper Val Viertel in pre-game warm-ups Saturday, sophomore center back Karina Siu threw on the goalie shirt and jumped in between the pipes. Sui had her hands full as Bryn Mawr played host to the nation's fifth ranked team, Johns Hopkins.

In her first collegiate game as a goalkeeper, Siu posted 20 saves on 37 shots as the Blue Jays won the afternoon contest 6-0 and moved to 15-0 overall and 8-0 in conference play.

Hopkins got on the board in the 4th minute with a goal by Hannah Kronick.

More than 30-minutes passed before the Blue Jays added to their lead. In the 36th minute, Paulina Goodman found the back of the net with an unassisted goal. Four minutes later, Kronick took an Erica Suter pass for her second goal of the afternoon.

Johns Hopkins held on to take a 3-0 lead at the half despite the defensive pressure that the Owls displayed on the field.

In the second stanza, the Blue Jays received goals from Christina Convey (48th minute), Kelly Baker (76th minute) and Ava Scheininger (89th minute).

Bryn Mawr's only shot of the day was taken by senior Miranda Gordon-Zigel.

The Owls are back to action when they host Swarthmore on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 3:30 pm.
