Box Score HAVERFORD, Pa. – Making her first start of the year, Val Viertel posted seven saves on 24-shots as host Haverford downed Bryn Mawr soccer 5-0 in Centennial Conference play Wednesday afternoon.
Haverford's Katie Van Aken scored the first goal of the afternoon when she took a Sarah Andrade pass in the second minute of the game. The score would hold as the Fords took a 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second, Haverford opened the flood gates as Van Aken and Andrade hooked-up again in the 59th minute to give the Fords a 2-0 lead. In the 68th minute, Connie Friedman netted an unassisted goal while Phoebe Miller connected on a PK six minutes later.
Lindsay Ryan tallied the final goal of the game in the 89th minute as Haverford improves to 9-1-4 on the season and 4-1-2 in league play.
Freshman Marcela Dorfsman-Hopkins took Bryn Mawr's lone shot of the afternoon in the 37th minute of the game.
The Fords outshot the Owls 24-1 and held a 4-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The loss drops Bryn Mawr to 5-8-1 on the season and 0-6-1 in Centennial Conference action.
The Owls return to action when they welcome Johns Hopkins to the Main Line on Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2:00 pm on Applebee Field.
